2.27.10 The Young Winos Go to Sonoma

30 04 2010

On a crisp February Saturday, perfect for drinking, the Young Winos set out for Sonoma County adventure. We got the party started with some bubbles on the bus.

Stop #1 Ridge Vineyards

We started the day with a great line-up at Ridge. Favorites in the group were 2007 Carignane Ranch ($28) and the 2006 Zinfandel Caboose ($30) which Colin said was like eating a berry sandwich.

Ridge tasting room

The resounding favorite was a delicious 1980 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello that the tasting room was kinda enough to let us try.  Thanks Ridge! Here’s Kelly taking us through a taste of the beauty:

Stop #2 Michel-Schlumberger Wine Estate

At this gorgeous estate we had with a picnic lunch and then Samantha Fegert (tour guide extraordinaire) took us on a fantastic tour of the vineyards and winery. Here are some clips from the tour:

Tasting room

After the tour Samantha led us to a beautifully laid out tasting room and we got to try 2007 La Brume Chardonnay, 2006 Le Fume Pinot Noir, 2004 Merlot, 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2004 Deux Terres Cabernet Sauvignon.

They also let us try a little something special, a 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon. Here’s Kelly and Samantha to take you through it:

Stop # 3: GiaDomella

The last stop of the day was at the beautiful home of Victoria and Richard Passalacqua. They welcomed us in and we tried some very delicious Zins which everyone loved! So much so that many of us joined their wine club!

Another hit of the afternoon was Victoria’s baked brie with craisins and caramelized onions! Yum, to die for!

Here is a video of Kelly and Joe Passalacqua tasting a 2007 Zinfandel Reserve.

And as if all of that wasn’t enough… we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and more delicious wine on the bus ride home.

We loved having you guys out to the winery. We would love to host you for a wine education class if you would be interested in doing something like that sometime. We can arrange time with our winemaker and create a class specific to what you wish to learn to increase your wine knowledge. Come see us again soon.

Thanks! We loved visiting. The wine education class sounds terrific. I’m sure there would be a lot of interest among our members. Hopefully we can plan another trip soon, I’ll definitely be in touch.

AND – I just added one more video from our tour at M-S to the post above which got left out the first time 🙂
